I got a haircut today; the most enjoyable I care to remember.
You see, I don’t like haircuts and yet Steve, for that’s what he was called, made me feel at ease. I now know he lives near Sutton, drives a motorbike to work, got married last year, helped open four other shops, learnt his craft from his grandfather-the best man he knew by far- and is trying with his wife to have a baby. I also know that next time I want a haircut, it will be hard to have it done in any place other than Steve’s. I didn’t so much reward his charm and expertise by tipping generously as paid a debt I owed to that experience.
This is the essence of what hospitality should be about: a sincere exchange of life’s vignettes whilst ensuring that the job at hand is done exemplarily.
These are the attributes I am looking for in our employees but most importantly you need to be generous in your sincerity, determined in your professionalism and unbending in your desire to ensure that every guest remembers us fondly.
In return, you will be welcomed into a nurturing and financially rewarding environment where we all believe in high standards and integrity and try to push the boundaries of what is possible with every passing day.
Yes, working here is a race but a race against yesterday and yourself. It’s one hell of a way to spend 2018 so send your CV with a covering letter to john@peckhambazaar.com ASAP.
John
